Edmonton’s first sustainable master plan
Vision
The Sylvancroft Estate is a hidden treasure minutes from downtown, close to the attractions of 124 Street, yet within walking distance of the river valley. A new LRT station is planned.
Ten lots will be set within mature trees, with the ravine to the south and an imposing entrance off Stony Plain Road to the north. Lots will be sold to individuals or groups to build custom homes designed by The House Company.
Two of the lots make up the existing mansion. Currently, Beljan Development has plans for four homes over the three storeys of the existing structure. Potential homeowners are invited to suggest other possible designs that will give this important building another 100 years of life.
Plan
The Sylvancroft master plan will take this sustainable site to another level. It will be integrated into the city through paths, cycle routes and public transit. It will connect with local shops and stores, nature trails and neighbourhood amenities.
Cooperation
Beginning Winter 2012, a meeting of the Sylvancroft Ten will gather future homeowners with the project team. This will be an opportunity to discuss the proposed master plan and provide open comment on it prior to construction starting in Spring 2012. Each lot purchaser will have an opportunity to contribute new ideas and express their vision prior to finalizing the plan.
Design & build
The House Company will work with lot purchasers of Sylvancroft to build custom homes on every lot. Modern, sustainable homes will be situated on eight lots surrounded by mature trees. The original Sylvancroft Mansion will be developed as a loft-style condominium or a single family home.
